Job Description
We are looking for an experienced transportation professional to join our growing program management practice.  In this role, you will support high-level initiatives which pave the way for future project successes across various modes of transportation including ferry, bus rapid transit, highway, rail, and aviation.

The ideal candidate is motivated and effective in a self-directed environment, yet enjoys staying connected, collaborative, and accountable within a team setting.  They will be excited about new projects and initiatives, especially those where solutions can only be reached through creative, cooperative, and collaborative approaches.  Most importantly, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, results oriented, bring a friendly and approachable attitude, ask thoughtful questions, and be able to simultaneously manage multiple priorities.

Key responsibilities will vary from project to project and may include:
  • Think critically and creatively to successfully deliver unique assignments
  • Manage multi-faceted teams comprised of both internal and external members to facilitate successful project completion
  • Lead and/or assist with facilitation of workgroup meetings
  • Prepare meeting agendas and capture key takeaways for timely minute distribution
  • Manage project action items and track progress of each
  • Collect and organize project data through the use of spreadsheets, shared folders, Smartsheet, etc., and summarize or dashboard information as needed
Depending upon the skillset of the successful candidate, the following may also be assigned as responsibilities of the position:
  • Lead and/or support the preparation of grant applications
  • Manage and/or support grant reporting requirements
  • Contribute to project funding discussions and funding source identification
Internally, this role will be involved in project management of contracts and task orders.  Responsibilities will include development of scopes and fee estimates, tracking project budgets, and reviewing invoices prior to submission.  As the team grows, you may also be responsible for leading other team members, overseeing their assignments, providing mentorship, and reviewing their resource utilization.  In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to pursuits, proposal writing, and other business development activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, or related field from an accredited university
  • 8+ years of progressive transportation experience, including at least 3 years of project management experience
  • Proven experience managing concurrent projects and assignments
  • Very strong organizational and prioritization skills with ability to monitor and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, supported by submission of a writing sample
  • Proficiency with Microsoft365 suite of software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive
  • Valid Driver’s License and favorable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or other industry-related licensure or certification
  • Proficiency with Smartsheet, including the ability to prepare client-facing dashboards
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe, or other graphic design software
  • NCDOT or other state DOT experience
  • Experience identifying and pursuing grant opportunities and/or managing awarded grants
